The event was very well supported with twenty five delegates. Clive’s illustrated talk was captivating, and authoritative, and he developed an excellent rapport with the audience. He described in detail how the regime for railway safety legislation had developed and how the enforcement and judicial processes had become more robust. To illustrate this Clive recounted examples of events that had led to these changes, illustrating from first hand experience some of the factors involved.
Clive also made emphasis in his talk of the need for careful observance of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all subordinate legislation. Although it had not originally been intended to apply to transport it now was seen as the most important piece of legislation to govern the safe conduct of our business, and we ignore it at our peril.
To stay out of Gaol, we must ensure therefore that we adhere to the requirements of the Act, remembering at all times we have a duty of care to our staff, customers and anyone else that may be affected by our business undertaking.
A really enlightening talk and we are grateful to Clive for giving us his time.
