South West Branch visit to the Thames Valley Signalling Centre at Didcot – Friday 5th March 2010

On Friday, 5th March 2010 the South Wales & West branch of the Institution of Railway Operators held a site visit to the soon to be commissioned Thames Valley Signalling Centre at Didcot.

Fifteen members of the Institution attended and were hosted by the Network Rail Thames Valley Signalling Centre’s Project Operations Interface Specialist and the Thames Valley Customer Services Manager.

The group were shown around the new signalling centre. The following areas were visited:

• Staff accommodation

• Staff facilities

• Training/Briefing room

• Assessment centre

• Signalbox simulator

• Operations floor

• Interlocking/equipment room
