Welcome

On behalf of the North East Area Council I’d like to welcome you to our area council pages. Please take a few minutes to look at other pages contained in this section, which I hope you find interesting and useful. We always appreciate feedback, so if you have any comments or questions then please let us know.

Our area, and of course, that means your area, is an active one, with regular events, usually on the second Tuesday of the month. Some events are planned for weekends, and are often open to families, with these events usually taking place during the summer months.

This year, our events programme has seen events on a monthly basis, which was an exciting development for the area, so please have a look and see what is still coming up for the remainder of the year. We are also approaching the time when we begin to think about the 2012 events programme, and if you have any thoughts about possible events, please let us know. In addition, your views on this years programme would be most welcome. Have the events been of interest? Have we done them at times that you could attend? What would we improve to make events accessible to more members?

Details of all our events can be found on this website and also on the sponsored pages found within ‘Railnews’ and ‘Rail Professional’.

We are also keen to see events directly link into the modules being studied as part of the education courses offered by the IRO, which will help support students in their studies. If you are a student in our area, we would welcome you at our events, or if you wish to have a chat about your studies, again please get in touch.

If you’ve never been to one of our events, and would like to, but perhaps are not quite sure about attending the first one, please contact one of our committee members (whose contact details can be found on the ‘Meet the Council’ area of this section of the website). We will arrange to meet you and be more than happy to show you round. Equally, if you are a member who does attend our events, why not bring a colleague along? Even better, encourage them to join the IRO and they can enjoy the same benefits from the Institution that you do.

We also actively participate in the Institutions mentor programme and if this is of interest to you, please get in touch and we will set this up for you. Remember, it’s your institution, make sure you get the most out of it!

I look forward to seeing you soon!
