South West - Member Profile

Andrew Dickinson

What is your current role?

Station Manager Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford.

How long have you been a member of IRO and at what grade?

Three years as an Affiliate Member.

Are you involved in any Continuous Professional Development (CPD) with the IRO? If so, which programme/course?

I am currently studying on the Degree Course, Cohort 5.

What do you hope to get from your CPD?

On embarking on the Degree Course, my aim was to build on the operational knowledge that I gained from being on the First Group Graduate Management programme. I felt that it would give me a greater understanding of the wider aspect of operations with the railway industry that extended beyond passenger operations. I also felt that the course would offer the best support in gaining this knowledge, with input from a variety of knowledgeable tutors from across the industry. I believe that this formal qualification will then put me in a good position for developing my future career.

What have been the programme/course highlights to date?

Meeting a great bunch of fellow students from across the industry and sharing experiences and developing new friendships. The Tutorial Days have also given me the opportunity to meet tutors face to face and talk about the modules and essays within each module.

Once qualified, what next?

I want to use that knowledge to help me in my current role and throughout my future career.

Do you have any plans for further study?

We never know everything so there may be something on the cards for the future.
