Communication and the Railway Industry

The aim of this module is to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to function effectively as a middle manager in the railway industry, where the industry is understood as the train operating companies, Network Rail and associated regulatory bodies.

Syllabus

The following key areas will be considered:

  • Written communication
  • Oral communication
  • Effective dialogue
  • Effective presentation
  • Critical analysis

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  • Summarise and analyse standard industry documents relevant to rail operations
  • Construct complex documents relevant to middle management in rail operations
  • Generate and deliver a complex presentation pertaining to a subject of relevance to rail operations
  • Demonstrate a capacity to participate meaningfully in a sustained dialogue and negotiation in relation to railway operations
