Learning & Development

Modular Study

The IRO is now able to make available to members the opportunity to study individual modules from our professional development programme. This will enable members to fill any gaps in knowledge and progress their level of membership with the Institution.

Benefits:

The benefits of undertaking the modules individually are:

  • To fill in a gap formally towards a higher grade of membership;
  • To carry credit points against eventual study within a university programme
  • To excuse the need to repeat that module at a later date if he full course is undertaken

Module Delivery:

Candidates will be registered as students with Glasgow Caledonian University and will have 12 weeks to study each module. The modules are delivered by distance learning (which requires self study). Students will have access to GCU’s on-line study facility (Blackboard) and will need access to a computer with access to the internet and email facilities.

Students will be invited to attend a tutorial event at the start of the module, which will allow them the opportunity to meet with the tutor for the module and students on the professional development programme.

Candidates are required to undertake study of supplied materials, additional recommended reading and research, analysis of case studies and project work. It is estimated that at least seven hours study per week will be required.

Students will submit their work direct to the tutor for marking. Tutors designated to mark and provide feedback on each module have been accredited by GCU.

Award:

Our modules are allocated academic credits of 10, 15 and 20 points. Where 20 credits are achieved students will receive a Continuing Professional Development Certificate from Glasgow Caledonian University. This will allow individuals to use these credits at a later date for further study. The IRO will also issue their own certificate where students have successfully completed the module.
