Membership

Membership is open to anyone working in, or associated with, any part of the railway industry and who is already involved in the operations profession or wishes to prepare for a career in it. Our current membership is drawn from a wide range of companies including freight and passenger train operating companies, light rail and metro/urban systems, rolling stock and infrastructure providers, infrastructure renewal and maintenance companies, heritage railways, as well as monitoring, regulatory, consumer, and safety bodies/authorities.

Affiliate Membership is open to any person employed in, or associated with, the railway industry and who is already involved in the operations profession or wishes to prepare for a career in it.

The three higher grades of membership are entirely dependant on the level of qualification and experience. Promotion to higher grades will be open to all, following achievement of appropriate qualifications offered by the Institution or by extensive and broad experience in the field.

Student Membership was launched on 1st May 2007.

The Institution has a thriving Young Professionals group which is for members of all grades aged under 35.

Procedures for membership of the Institution will be open, transparent and proactive to the industry’s needs.
